Tate Holland, CEO

Tate Holland is an experienced School Director and Administrator. Mr. Holland has worked in make-up education and cosmetics sales, manufacturing and distribution for the last seventeen years. Along with his school responsibilities, Tate is active in local community affairs. He is a Board Member of CAPPS, the California Association of Private Postsecondary Schools, the Burbank Chamber of Commerce, the Burbank Downtown Business Improvement District, and is a Member of the Measure K Budgetary Oversight Committee for the Newhall School District. Mr. Holland holds a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from the American University in Washington, DC. Mr. Holland is certified as a School Director in accordance with CEC §94915(b)(3).


Elizabeth Hope, School Director (Manhattan)

Prior to being appointed School Director of the New York campus, Elizabeth Hope, a native New Yorker, was a staff member at Make-up Designory in Los Angeles. She gained extensive experience in higher education administration working in Residence Life and Orientation Departments at the college level, focusing on the First Year and Transitional Student Experience. At the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston she was responsible for researching and writing curriculum guides that were used by teachers in the Boston metro area. She attended Boston University where she received a B.A. in Sociology and studied Non-Profit Arts Management at Sage Graduate School in Albany, NY. Currently she is pursuing her Master's Degree in Student Personnel Administration at New York University. In addition to her work in education and school administration, Elizabeth is an active participant in the entertainment industry and is a member of the Screen Actor's Guild. Elizabeth is a certified School Director in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.d(2)(3).

Paul Thompson, Director of Education

Paul Thompson has been a professional make-up artist for over twenty years, and has taught all phases of make-up artistry at the vocational level for the past thirteen years. Mr. Thompson developed the training program and lesson materials for the Character Make-up department, as well as wrote the manual. In addition to teaching at Make-Up Designory and UCLA Extension, he has lectured all over the world for numerous cosmetic companies such as MAC, Max Factor and Kryolan Cosmetics. His responsibilities include supervision of the school’s daily educational programs. His professional credits include co-creation of the very first silicone body-suit for Luke Perry in Robin Cook’s Invasion (NBC mini-series). He has created numerous make-up effects for commercials, as well as supervised film and television projects for the MUD/FX Group. Mr. Thompson has worked with many celebrities, including Janet Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, James Earl Jones, Jackie Chan, Eric Roberts, Matthew Broderick, Christopher Reeve, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Cheech Marin, Pauly Shore, Tracy Lords, John Dye, George Hamilton, Clint Howard, and Mark Kriski. Mr. Thompson is a licensed instructor in accordance with CEC § 94915(b)(3).


Melissa Michele Mulkey, Lead Instructor

Michele Mulkey has been a professional make-up artist for five years. Her film credits include Deja Vu, Flags of our Fathers, Sin City, Herbie: Fully Loaded, Seed of Chucky, The Passion of Christ, Constantine, The Chronicles of Riddick, The Haunted Mansion, The Last Samurai and Solaris. Ms. Mulkey’s television credits include Bold and the Beautiful, Black.White., Charmed, CSI Miami, Without A Trace, Firefly, Ascent of the Red Planet, Star Trek: Voyager and MTV’s Dismissed. Her commercials include Jack in the Box, Dell, Verizon, Subway Sandwich Shoppes, Wells Fargo, Cingular Wireless, Ford, Dockers, Honda, FedEX, Old Navy, Fruit Gushers and AT&T. Ms Mulkey‘s celebrity make-ups include Jamie Kennedy, Alan Cummings, Ben Stine, Hunter Tylo, Pat Morita, Christopher Atkins, Ron Masak, Dennis Haskins and Bernie Kopell. Ms. Mulkey is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.

John Bailey, Instructor

John Bailey has an extensive background as a make-up educator, at both the university and vocational school level. John began his teaching career in 1973 at Florida State University. He has taught at California State University at Long Beach, and has taught at the vocational level since 1991. In addition, John has lectured on make-up extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Asia and Mexico. He is responsible for the development and initiation of the Beauty Education program for Make-Up Designory, and supervises the training and performance of all beauty instructors. John has served as a make-up artist to celebrities including Edward James Olmos, Jude Law, Bo Derek, Ricardo Montalban, Fred Dryer and Maria Conchita Alonso. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Arts from Florida State University, and has completed graduate studies at California State University Long Beach. Mr. Bailey is a licensed instructor in accordance with CEC § 94915(b)(3) and NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.

Chantal Mariani, Instructor

Chantal Mariani has been a professional makeup artist for 20 years and is a member of Union Local 798, I.A.T.S.E. Make-up Artists and Hairstylists. Her television make-up credits include: Guiding Light, As The World Turns, Good Day N.Y., A Current Affair, Larry King Live, Showbiz Today and The 500 Home Run Club (Mickey Mantle). Her commercial credits include: JP Morgan, Dean Witter, Ticketron, Nutri-System and Robin Leach on the Beach. Her film credits include: She’s Back (Carrie Fisher), Day Traitors and The Gifted. Her past and present celebrity clients are: James Earl Jones, Patrick Stewart, Ellen Burstyn, Vanessa Redgrave, Christopher Reeve, Sigourney Weaver, Susan Sarandon, Ray Liotta, Gwyneth Paltrow, Miranda Richardson, Iman, John F. Kennedy, Jr., Elle McPherson, Brooke Shields, Jaclyn Smith and Cicely Tyson. Chantal also shares a passion for acting, having received the 2001 Curtain Up Critics Award for Best Actress, as well as having done extensive spokesperson and commercial work. Chantal Mariani is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f. 20

Michelle Grimm, Instructor

Michelle Grimm, a graduate of Make-up designory L.A., is a professional hairstylist and make up artist who has been working in the beauty industry for over 7 years. Her career began as a licensed cosmetologist working in several salons in Washington D.C. Her training and education include Graham Webb, Redken and Toni & Guy. Michelle has worked with several prominent cosmetic lines such as FACE Stockholm in Soho as a manager and make up artist and Nars Cosmetics at Bergdorf Goodman, New York as the resident make up artist. For the past several years, Michelle has worked as an artist during New York’s annual Fashion Week for such designers as Gottex, Personal Affairs and up-and-coming designers Nicole Romano and Michael Calloway. Michelle’s celebrity make-ups include Jessica Simpson, Patty Hanson, Glenn Close, Brooke Shields, Lisa and Brittany Gastineau, Whoopi Goldberg and Rashida Jones. Michelle Grimm is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.


Rebecca Casciano, Instructor

Rebecca Casciano is a professional make-up artist based in New York City. Her freelance career entails diverse experience in many facets of make-up design including fashion, advertising, music and television. Rebecca’s print work has been featured in magazines such as Zink, New York Moves, Jolie, Urban Latino and Addict. She has worked with fashion designers Valentino, Heatherette, Pamella Roland and Nanette Lepore for New York Fashion Week and showroom events. Her television experience includes America’s Next Top Model, The Grammys, Fashion Rocks, The Tavis Smiley Show, The History Channel and commercials for The Food Network and Spike TV. Rebecca has worked on music videos featuring artists such as Britney Spears, Shaggy, Erykah Badu, Kirk Franklin and Busta Rhymes. In addition to her freelance experience, Rebecca has represented prominent cosmetic lines Make Up For Ever and MAC., forwhom she was a retail manager and artist. Her background also includes make-up education for the film and television industry. Ms. Casciano is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.


Nancy Sprague, Instructor

Nancy Sprague has been a professional make-up artist for over twenty years. Trained in Paris and New York, Nancy has worked in television, video, and print. Her television credits include Martha Stewart Living, Good Morning America (ABC), and The Early Show (CBS). Nancy has worked with many performers on their music videos, including Aerosmith, Paula Abdul, Billy Joel, Michael Bolton, Bruce Springsteen, Harry Connick, Jr., Luciano Pavarotti, and Placido Domingo. She has done commercials for Cote D'Or, Elle Magazine, Burger King, Coca Cola, Lever 2000, Japanese Airlines, Royal Caribbean Cruises, and Dr. Pepper. Nancy's editorial work includes Allure, Elle, British Elle, British Vogue, Esquire, Glamour, GQ, InStyle, Marie Claire, MAXIM, Mirabell, and Cosmopolitan. Her print campaigns include Bloomingdale's, Chanel, Clairol, Coty, DeBeers, Dewars, Neiman Marcus, Oil of Olay, and the Wonder Bra. Nancy has worked with many celebrities, including Benjamin Bratt, Christina Applegate, Elle McPherson, Ethan Hawke, Harvey Keitel, Heather Locklear, Kate Capshaw, Mia Farrow, Michael Jordan, Nicki Taylor, Spike Lee, Stockard Channing, and Uma Thurman. Nancy Sprague is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.


Susan F. Sidor, Instructor

Susan Sidor has been a leading Fashion Producer/Stylist for over twenty years. After a few years in retail, Susan got her big break working for Calvin Klein. Recognizing her sense of style and talent, Calvin Klein mentored Susan personally, teaching her the fine art of fashion styling and fashion show production. Susan then went on to a successful art directing career, styling and production, working for the New York Men's Fashion of the Times, Macy's N.Y., MR Magazine, MCI, Hanes, World Gold Council, Forbes Magazine, Robb Report and is currently the consulting Fashion Director of Forum Magazine, a luxury lifestyle magazine for the Forum Group of Stores. She has also produced fashion and decorating segments for Live! With Regis and Kelly. Susan has dressed many celebrities including Joan Rivers, Raquel Welch, Billy Crystal, Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa. She has done wardrobing for the Everly Brothers and Kenny Loggins. She dressed Mr. Loggins for his tours, as well as for his appearances on the 1997 Oscar Awards. Susan also brings her expertise to fashion show production working with illustrious designers and industry leaders such as Oscar de la Renta, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Gucci, Kenneth Cole, Tiffany & Co., Harpers Bazaar, Esquire Magazine, Juicy Couture, Sketchers, 7th on Sixth, Paul Mitchell, and Clairol. Additionally, Susan has taught Fashion Show Production at Laboratory Institute of Merchandising, N.Y. In her spare time, Susan has become a Nutritional Lifestyle Counselor, leads seminars, and is the founder of The Holistics, a network of Nutritional Holistic Health Counselors. Ms. Sidor is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.


Lorraine Smith, Instructor

Lorraine Smith started her career in make-up in 1998. She went to Christine Valmy School of Esthetics in NYC where she received her certification in beauty. She worked as a freelancer for several cosmetic brands such as Toni & Tina, Urban Decay, Benefit Cosmetics before working full-time for MAC Cosmetics. During her career with MAC, Lorraine went from Retail Artist to becoming a Trainer and then part of the management team. Lorraine has also worked with video directors like Little X, Chris Robinson, Benny Boom and Jesse Terrero. She has also worked with 50 Cent and G-UNIT, Cee Cee Winan, Melinda Williams, founder and owner of Carol’s Daughter, Lisa Price, Angela Bassett and Senator Hilary Clinton. Ms. Smith is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.


Spring Super, Instructor

For the past 10 years Spring Super has been practicing make-up artistry. Originally from the West Coast, her career began after becoming a licensed aesthetician and apprenticing for established artists. Specializing in airbrush technique, Spring's combination of traditional and modern skills sets her apart as an artist that can provide the gamut. Now living in New York City, Spring enjoys the freelance life working in advertising, editorial, television and commercials. Super is a licensed instructor in accordance with NYSED Regulation 126.6.f.
